About the Designer

French (Corsica) and American, Johanne Bertaux-Strenna graduated from London College of Fashion in 2010, with a BA Costume for Performance. After university, she worked on various projects as a Costume Designer, principally for film and theatre, in London and Tel Aviv. Work includes feature film Lotus Eaters, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2011, projects with the NFTS in London, music videos for UK electropop band Fenech-Soler, a few projects for Channel 4, as well as photography work with Alison Jackson in London and projects with the Clipa Theatre and Akko Festival in Tel Aviv.

Interested in environmental issues since early on, Johanne recently developed an interest in ethical fashion, which led her to participate in the Red Carpet Green Dress competition in February 2012 and reach the final top three contestants out of 264. This paved the way for a collaboration with London-based photographer David Yiu, in order to create an entirely sustainable dress made from pure cotton and recycled second hand garments from Chris Carey’s Collections.

Sail the Seven Seas, Johanne’s debut womenswear collection, arises today as the natural continuation of these projects. The collection nourishes itself from influences including time spent in Tel Aviv in 2012, Mediterranean summers with the family as well as experience as a Costume Designer.
